Staff Motivation

When it comes to staff motivation there are a few things to remember.

1. You need to employ staff who can be motivated. Alot of people do not care and only want to sit around at work and do very little. For a staff member to be motivated they need to be able to be motivated. They have to respond to such things as incentives and bonuses and also to a good working environment. If they do not care you cannot get anything out of them. So only employ staff who like to work and contribute ideas and their time to the success of a business.

2. You need to create a good working environment were a friendly attitude and help is available to employees. You do not want the employee to be afraid of the boss or to not be able to ask advice on how to preform their job. This happens more often than it should with employers treating their workers badly. If you do this you are killing your own business.

3. You have to have a bonus and reward program in effect. Staff motivation is greatly increased when they get a reward for any extra effort they put in. Motivating staff should be a top priority for business owners. Good staff policies and bonuses can be anything from a pay rise to cash based performance bonuses, to TV's and holidays. Put the reward and bonus program down on paper and put it up  where every employ can see the bonus structure. Also as part of your staff training make them aware that good work gets them bonuses.

You should also grade your employees into 3 groups

1. Those how preform well and deliver results - these employees you keep and reward well.

2. Those employees in the middle of the pack. These employees you try to motivate and train to increase their performance. If they are always only average you are better of firing them and hiring some new staff members who work better. remember that the profitability of your business can increase dramatically if you have top performers in your business instead of only average employees.

3. Those employees that are a drain on your business. They waste your time and can make you go bankrupt. Fire them now, not latter now, immediately place an ad for new staff members.

Staff motivation can be tricky but it is something that you as an employer need to understand and practice. Also your staff will appreciate it and work better and will stay working for you longer.
